There's snow on the ground and I'm wondering how to bring a feeling of well being into my life. I definitely need the magic of that zing and feeling content. This is a season of big things. Big storms, big problems in politics, big problems with health, big financial problems, big needs for improvement in ways we treat the earth and each other, big needs for maintenance and repair of our infra structure and things we have created. The size of all these problems is almost too big to deal with. But a wise magician does not turn away from the need for change, although it can be hard knowing where to start. But start we must or we will suffer from the guilt of holding back There is help from the Nike slogan, 'Just do it'. Start tiny. Very very tiny. Meditate on a tiny thing. Perhaps there is just one bit of visual beauty. Make sure you focus on it. Today I only saw two birds at the bird feeder. But that was enough of a small good thing that my heart was peaceful and warm watching them. Meditate by centering and focusing on tiny things. Then go on to take one tiny step towards a better world. I personally would be happy to see freight trains loaded with guns on the way to "be beaten into plowshares". That's too big for me but I might be able to help someone think a little more clearly about the lies they are hearing about the issues. There might be a lot of little things I can do. I will continue to recycle. I will do the little things. I will continue to energize myself by the little bits of magic I can create. I will smile, I will enjoy the sunrise. I will plant seeds where I can. I will bring magic to my life and to others. I hope each wise magician that reads my words finds a way to do the same. May the spark be with you.

Take Your Magical Throne
Sometimes the magic you need is to shake off the lack of appreciation you didn't get from someone you expected it from. Sometimes you need to feel wreathed in a magical zing, but others have thrown a bucket of cold water (they called reality) over your whole castle of spun sugar. Now is the time to practice centering and finding your bit of magic again. You can try this ritual. Lift your head up like the queen (or king) of magic that you are. Raise your right eyebrow. Or your left if that one elevates more easily. Arise from the humble stool where you have been sitting. With all the pride in the world, walk to your throne. Survey your domain. With a truly regal air, be seated. This is you throne, your birthright, and you must keep it occupied from time to time. Now look around graciously. As the sovereign of your realm you can dispense boons, favors, forgiveness and penalties. You can forgive those who do not read the style of writing you enjoy writing. If you have other crafts it is the same process. You can bless them for being able to read, or able to recognize your craft. This is your realm. You are already rich. You do not need to be judged by gold from outside the realm unless you wish to accept it as tribute. Find comfort and support from your throne. You are now free to observe and learn what you will. Be proud. Be seated in your throne. I say to all wise magicians: There will be times when the slings and arrows of life will come your way. Do not cower. Be seated in your magical throne and be sovereign of your realm. May the spark be with you.

The Magic of Finding the Familiar
Normally I wake up eagerly focused on some creative endeavor and want to get up and start working on it. Today there was some anxiety mixed in with my drive to create. I woke up thinking about my commitment to make some drastic changes in my life. Change is hard. Change is loss. We lose the ways we know and must take up new things. But my magical godmother self whispered to me : "There will be things you know".
While I was trying to figure this out I noticed that I was feeling calmer and more confidant. Indeed, some of the changes I must make I actually have made before. Plus I know how to learn. I know how to learn from other people. What I don't know I will know. I realized that I could cloak this learning and developing new habits in a feeling of familiarity. Like a puppy sniffing at a stranger until he decides he has found a friend, I can move into this new aspect of my life with less fear than I was feeling. I can shine the light of courage before me and make this path my own. I have been in the habit of letting a still small voice whisper evil whispers of unworthiness and failure in my ear. It was faint but I was hearing things like, "This is only for the big girls, you are too old, past your prime, don't dream so big." Well guess what! It is my path and I can walk it a step at a time. As I go I will learn and make it a friendly path. So, I suggest to all wise magicians, if you are worried about the big challenges life is throwing at you add a bit of magic to your tool box. Life is a challenge, but, there will be things you know. There will be comfort. May the spark be with you.

Energy Magic
Being in a "happy place" in your mind is pretty wonderful. I can go for hours feeling fairly happy, just getting things done. But I have to beware of getting in my head too much sometimes. At times I want to be more energized to take of challenging tasks or to interact with the people I care about in a better way. Sometimes I also want to feel more connected to the natural world around me. At those times I try to raise my energy level. There are several little things you can do to give yourself a quick spark of energy. One is to do a quick short expulsion of breath, with or without sound. Do it hard enough that the breathing muscle, the diaphragm, is jolted. Another is to breathe deeply, hold it, then slowly exhale for several times. You can also gain energy by cupping your hands in front of your mouth and nose so that you breathe in what you breathe out for a breath or two. A little shake of your head as you flare your nostrils and eyelids in an energizer. Rubbing your hands and arms will up your energy. Aerobic movements will help. Shouting and lunging may be useful. I suggest you practice assessing your energy level and experiment with upping it. It is very useful to be able to calm yourself and it is also very useful to be able to energize yourself. Let this change in energy level give you the spark of magic you need to have a satisfying life.

The Magician's Mirror
The magician does not need a mirror to reassure himself/herself that she/he exists. They are so sure of their existence that it is not questioned. The I AM decision has been made. They are not in the clutches of 'I am a....' They are in their being, looking out and wondering what else exists. They also may wonder, what is existence? I began to learn this as a child, how perception could shift, and how fun it was. My brothers and I would walk around in our house holding a small mirror under our eyes so we saw only the ceiling. After a few minutes we perceived that the ceiling was the floor. We had to be careful to walk around the chandeleir that was sticking up, and to feel carefully with our feet to avoid things we could not see. I have known too many people that are so unsure of their being that they seem to fail to see the person standing before them because they are so busy wondering how that person perceives them. People standing around seeing others seeing others seeing others, hoping to be seen.
Lost in a sea of tattered labels, wondering which label they should try to reglue and hail as reality.
Use your senses to get back into your own being. Notice what you see, smell, hear, sense as movement. Sense how your breath goes, the temperature of the air, any comfort or discomfort you feel. Let the world mirror you, rather than you mirroring the world. Then you will be free to make choices.
